» A Health Battle: Half Marathon Recap!
constantbattle:
(this is a lot longer than I thought it would be, but I want to remember as much as I can. Excuse the excessive length! :)
The race was in San Diego, which is an hour and a half from my LA college, so Friday I got on a train and went to stay with my friend Katie. We had a delicious dinner,…
liia, YOU are the reason i started running, and really, started coming back from my dark dark dark time. congratulations. you are too awesome. :)

this is me just having returned from Liia’s school gym, looking like a crazy flushed alien girl. running was SO HARD TODAY. oof. i went exactly 2 miles but walked probably about half of it. bleh.
it’s okay though, i forget that’s what happens when i do giant weight circuits and abs. i am quite sore. and by that i mean whenever i lay down i grunt and groan when trying to sit up again. i am such a dainty little girl (PSYCH).
anyway. now i must pack and shower and prepare to leave sunny CA. sad. :(
I FINALLY BRAVED THE COLD!!! january fitblr race attempt #1: 2 miles, 23:17
woooooooo!
(i also got lost while i was running. typical. so i walked extra distance and was sort of off. but whatever. typical.)
at the gym
i did 20 minutes of elliptical and 5 minutes of jogging (to give my legs a break)! and i shall do my 2 miles tomorrow!!!
(secret: i’m actually excited to run 2 miles. seriously, though, i have hated running all my life. i have NEVER been excited to run ANYTHING EVER. in fact, when i had to run in gym, they used to surprise test us with a heart rate monitor stick, and i would just walk around the track and when my gym teachers got pissy with me slacking off and tried to test me, i would just jump up and down all the way over to them. brilliant. i was brilliant.)
and WIT for me tomorrow!
a big thumbs up to all of you. :)
i won’t lie to you, tumblr loves.
i only went out for 1 mile yesterday instead of my 2. there are no excuses for that.
THAT BEING SAID. i almost blew it off completely, standing at my front door looking out at the snow falling and the wind blowing and just KNOWING it was going to be a rough one. but i got out there and did one loop, 11:30 pace, 28 degrees feeling like 18. but i powered through! i did a mile in my new beautiful asics that came in the mail yesterday, and i feel good about that.
today i will do my two miles on the treadmill, just you watch me. and there might even be some people i know at the gym. oh baby.
p.s. i’m going to do a WIT instead of WIW because i woke up at a friends house and had waffles! and i do not like to weigh myself after eating. :)
i just went through
a ridiculous amounts of computer/ipod software updates to get my ipod touch working and did absurd amounts of research on the best pedometers for ipod touch available, and decided to purchase this app:

and today, i’m hopefully getting my new running shoes in the mail (lord, i hope it’s today, otherwise they’re going to get stuck somewhere in 10 feet of snow. okay, 8 inches, but seriously, it might as well be 10 feet. i don’t like the cold, can you tell?). and then i’m going to power through my hatred of running in cold weather (i’ve been spoiled by my southern school) and do my 2 mile run for my first time for the january fitlbr races!
i’ve been up since 6:40 because i had to drive one of my babysitting charges to school in the city, and i’m still all jazzed up on wawa coffee and too awake to sleep. but i think i’ll nap before i attempt this powerful feat of feet (HAHA get it?!).
running in the winter in the north
is VERY different from running in the winter in the south. i ran about 1.5 (technically 1.48) miles to my friend’s house who just had HER wisdom teeth out (twins!) to visit her. i also don’t have a car. but exercise and transportation, that’s two birds with one stone!
the cold was really rough on my lungs though. i was all kinds of coughing and wheezing. but there’s only one way to get back in shape and that is to jump right back in!
i had some tasty oatmeal, a diced peach cup, and an avocado for breakfast, which ended up being more like lunch by the time i woke up, some asparagus and bean soup with my toothless friend, and some pepperoni pizza for dinner (i was way under calories).
so i’m ending my day at about 1500 calories which is not bad for the first day back on the horse! luckily my jaw is feeling better (although the muscles are still pretty tight—apparently i clench my jaw when i sleep which is not uncommon but after my wisdom teeth, i clenched even harder because of the pain, etc. etc.) so chewing healthy foods is easier :)
